Wishes

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 15, 2007, 10:20 PM
I've just finished 5 hockey games in 3 days and the thing I will remember the most is having to lie on the ice to stretch between periods and watching the sweat drip through my cage and form a pool on the ice. I've never played 3 games in one day and I've never felt so tired. I'm not sure how I will find it in me to even move tomorrow.

We didn't win either of the two playoff games today (ending up in second place in the tournament and too tired to forecheck in the league game),and I didn't win my markers on ebay, so I suppose I must have already spent my wishes for the week.

Hey Everyone, I was so surprised when I logged in to see the amount of messages I had that I thought at first it was some kind of counter glitch! This is just a small note to say thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my stuff, because it will probably be awhile before I will be able to read them all..and thanks to ^nighty for the feature!

blah blah blah

A while ago I had this really fun contract job doing illustrations for baby shoes, which seemed to come to an end when the business was sold to an American company. I was pretty sad about that, but hooray! hooray! They emailed me today and it looks like I get to do some more drawings for them. And I even get to draw children occasionally, although sadly, not with helmet heads.

Today my son had his best friend over, and when his Dad rang the doorbell and i went to let him in, J. managed to hide well enough that his Dad and I had to hunt for about 10 minutes to find him. I didn't think it was possible to find such a good hiding place in our tiny house. If I were just a little smaller I might sit there myself.

Art Supply Addiction (and east van vs. west van)

Does anyone else have this?

I'm pretty happy with these three recent purchases - my Fabriano classic artist's journal, the compact watercolors and the waterbrush. The journal was on sale at my local art store , I could have bought three of them, I love them so much. The watercolor compact was $2.50 and my original plan was to gouge out the cakes and replace them with my own colors, but that proved to be harder than I imagined so I'll just try and paint them away. Actually, for $2.50 they're not that bad! The last thing I bought was a waterbrush, which I'm still trying to get used to - I'm not used to using so much water but I'm obsessed with portability of late and this seems just the thing. I tried stuffing it with a bit of a cut off foam earplug to reduce the water flow, and it actually worked pretty well until I decided I want to see what I can do with everything so wet. And the next thing I'd really like to try is coptic markers and a print gocco!

About 8 months ago I did a website, logo design and content management system for someone who decided not to pay me and just had her boyfriend phone and insult me instead. They were super pissed at me because the person I recommended to maintain their site yanked it when they didn't pay him either. Turns out this couple is rather well-known for being involved in all kinds of nefarious dealings. I had to deliver a summons to a payment hearing to them in person yesterday, and it was pretty stupid that I had to drive 45 minutes out to their 3 million dollar waterfront home in one of the richest neighborhoods in Vancouver to get my lousy thousand dollars.

The sad thing is that it was the lady's sister that convinced me to do the job, who, while not being an exceptionally close friend, was someone that I trusted. When I confronted her about why her sister was being such a lousy human being she told me about all their familial problems, including the sister and boyfriend being on the outs with the family because they had also ripped off her father. So I'm not such good friends with the sister anymore, because I can't help but think that knowing what kind of people they are, she probably figured I'd be a pushover.

So now we're going to court and we are at the stage now that if she ignores me one more time she will be arrested. Its pretty sad that in a 7 year freelance career the first time I get ripped off is by a friend.
